Welcome to The Weekly Three! Each Monday, I share a three-card Tarot spread to help you focus your intuitive energy in real life, and take action with intention inside your business.
I pull these cards with the collective energy of my community in mind, but if you want a custom spread of your very own, you can get it right here.
The Big Idea: It all feels upside down.
Unsurprisingly, after the SCOTUS shit show deluxe combo with a side of fries and a large drink that was last week: Justice, the Queen of Swords and Temperance all hit us reversed.
Justice, upended.
Truth and reason, upended.
Our patience, up. fucking. ended.
I’d also like to point out that this little three-card spread has two Major Arcana cards—an indicator that we’re in a “major life moment” right now. I think that is entirely true right now when it feels like progress is not only being thwarted at every turn, but actively being set back.
Justice reversed indicates an unfair outcome. There’s an injustice that’s been done, legal trouble, or false accusations. The scales tipped the wrong way and it’s led to the wrong outcome.
The Queen of Swords reversed is about treachery. It’s betrayal, being stabbed in the back, and logic being thrown out the window.
Temperance reversed says we’re all out of patience. The imbalance is getting to us and the flow just isn’t going.
In Your Business: Take a beat before you (inevitably) get back in the ring.
I’m really tired. I’m disheartened. I’m worried about the safety and futures of the Queer community and BIPOC. I’m freaking out about the progressively worse state of the world and the lack of fucks given by the people who are supposed to be leading and governing us.
And I’m gonna sit down for a minute.
I’m gonna sit down and take care of myself for a motherfucking minute.
I’m going to invite you to do the same. Especially if you hold any of the marginalized identities which have been directly under attack over the last several days.
And only when you’ve gathered yourself, re-grounded yourself, refilled the tank enough, I’m inviting you to keep going.
With reversals in Tarot, I think about what it would take to turn them “right-side up” again.
What will it mean to reorient ourselves for justice? To have the patience and balance to go with the flow as things unfold? To act from truth and reason for the good of humanity and not just personal gain?
Dr. Samantha-Rae Dickenson, CEO and lead consultant of equity firm DSRD Consulting, recently posted on social media:
“I’ve talked about the invisible taxes that come with being part of marginalized communities. One tax we don’t often speak about is the struggle to prioritize and maintain mental health. People preach ‘self-care,’ but self-care alone won’t remove systems of oppression.”
We need both things. We need deep, effective self-care, and we need systemic change.
Founder and CEO of The Institute for Equity-Centered Coaching and author of The Antiracist Business Book, Trudi LeBron, often speaks about how diversity, equity and inclusion work is about better life outcomes and protecting the humanity of all people.
And you don’t have to be a DEI specialist to make a difference. You just have to be willing to be part of a change that makes things better for human beings across the board.
So when you have it in you to turn back toward your business—
How can you use what you’ve got to contribute to that righting of wrongs and flipping of reversals?
For right this second: rest.
If you have the privilege not to hold multiple intersecting marginalized identities but interact regularly with those who do: be kind, act with compassion and carry the torch where you can.
In a minute, we regroup, rebalance and rebuild.
Until next week,
Zoha
