The Weekly Three: August 21st, 2023
Cut through illusions and reassess situations move by move.
Welcome to The Weekly Three! Each Monday, I share a three-card Tarot spread to help you focus your intuitive energy in real life, and take action with intention inside your business.
I pull these cards with the collective energy of my community in mind, but if you want a custom spread of your very own, you can get it right here.

The Big Idea: Your cool auntie helps you cut the bullshit and move forward even though it’s hard.
If I didn’t give a rat’s ass about astrology, then I might look at this week’s spread and read a theme of decisive swiftness.
But since I really, really do, (please take all my rats, and be nice to them for they are but small,) we can see something a bit different. And that difference is all delivered through context.
There are some changes in traffic patterns in the sky this week:
Mercury is going retrograde on Wednesday, joining Venus, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto at their “go ahead and learn the lesson 😌” moonwalk social already in progress.
With this context in mind, “find your truth and act fast and decisively” becomes “lead with truth and navigate the battle.”
“Find and act” feels pretty different from “lead and navigate,” doesn’t it? If feels like the difference between being able to make huge sweeping decisions and having to make a series of small ones one after another.
The Queen of Swords is a seer of the truth. She can cut to the heart of the matter, and never mind your bullshit. Queens are generally the nurturers of the suit, but the way in which each one nurtures, and the focus of the nurturing is what differs between each one.
I think of the Queen of Swords like she’s the cool auntie you call to pick you up when you’re drunk at a party and you don’t need mom to know. You can’t lie to Cool Auntie, and she’s going to tell you when you fuck up, but she’s also going to help you get what you need to through it.
She’s logical, rational, level-headed and she’s ready to use that sword if she needs to—whether in your defense or to cut you down to size.
The VII of Cups is the ultimate in emotional choice overload. The heart wants what the heart wants, but… what does the heart want? There are so many things to choose from, you might be distracted or having difficulty deciding.
You may also be stuck in your daydreams and giving more gas to illusions than they should have. How do you know what’s real and what’s not?
The Knight of Swords is another character concerned with the truth. But unlike the nurturing Queen, this guy is all act-first-think-later.
In this reading, I’m seeing this card’s warrior nature come through more than its speed. There’s a battle raging, and you’ve got to keep recalculating your position in order to continue moving toward victory.
Right now, we’re in it.
In Your Business: Kind logic and staying vigilant keep you from distraction and delusion.
If there’s ever been a time to assess and then reassess, it’s now.
With five planets in retrograde, it’s a time to take slow, measured action over the constant “quick-start doing” that is encouraged in some corners of the small business world (this isn’t one of them.)
In her newsletter Astrology For Writers, Jeanna Kadlec often mentions looking at all of the “re-” words when it comes to retrogrades.
Rethink, reconsider, revise, reassess, recover… re, re, re.
Because Mercury, the trickster planet, is connected with things like communication, analytical thought and technology, this is where we see our curriculum unfolding for the lessons we can learn during its retrograde.
Mercury is also the Greek God Hermes, who is totally good to hop and bop freely between the realms of the living and the dead. When is he dealing with flesh and blood, when is he dealing with ghosts and what does either scenario mean for you?
When it comes to your business this week, finding your right options will mean finding your rational truth and wielding it like a sword to cut through the distractions and delusions.
That means knowing your own context is the key to this whole shebang.
The Queen of Swords is asking you to nurture through logic and rationality. The VII of Cups is alerting you to potential illusions and decision paralysis. The Knight of Swords is letting you know there’s a battle raging on the field of communication and thought.
You may find yourself needing to change your approach or reassess your position with each decision you make. You may find yourself needing to be a little more present, aware and on your toes in order to get the whole picture and roll with the punches.
But, if you keep the real deal as your lens, you’ll be able to navigate this battle and come out on the other side victorious (and even better equipped for the next one.)
Until Next Week,
Zoha
